Preparing for the
Future
The Parish of St Mary,
Penwortham has a fine Grade 2* listed church on a site which has
been used for Christian worship for over a thousand years. Although
the nave and vestry areas date only from the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries respectively, almost the whole of the chancel
and tower are early mediaeval.
By the middle of 2006,
-
The church’s Victorian
heating system, which had been malfunctioning for several years,
was on the verge of complete failure
-
Major structural defects
had been discovered in the floor of the nave.
'Preparing for the Future' is the name given to the St Mary's
Development Project, our response to our much loved church's current
crisis.
In
the following pages, you can find out about the project, what we
want to achieve and the help that we need.
