overhauling the roof - especially replacing guttering and
drainpipes which are now inadequate;
replacing
the floors of the chancel and nave (including the rotten wooden
flooring of the side aisles) with a new stone-flagged surface,
as part and parcel of replacing the old heating system (with its
inefficient oil-fired boilers, leaking supply tanks and cast
iron piping, and asbestos insulation), mainly with an up-to-date
under-floor micro-bore hot water heating system served by
efficient gas boilers;
upgrading
the present outmoded security and lighting arrangements (by
replacing unsightly wire-mesh screening of stained-glass windows
with polycarbonate screening, and installing smoke alarms,
exit-signing, and internal and external lighting to satisfy the
latest safety requirements);
restoring
water-damaged plasterwork and redecorating the main church
throughout;
installing
a toilet for the disabled and decent kitchen facilities in the
vestry area;
replacing
the uncomfortable old pews with easily movable new chairs, and
the faltering - and unremarkable - pipe-organ with a modern
instrument.
